Welcome Wagon

After all the teasing we finally see what launched…Notion Calendar! A gorgeous, fully integrated calendar that can connect directly to your Notion databases.

Oh joy.

Productivity nerd here šŸ‘‹šŸ¾

Guilty as charged, and pleased to admit it! I’ve dabbled in so many productivity apps and tools that this whole newsletter could be ā€˜just’ about that one topic, err niche and I’d probably never run out of things to write about. So, what am I writing about, well ā€˜another’ productivity tool in Notion Calendar. Notion is a toold that has become dear to my heart. I always felt we needed one more user management & doc management tool in the space, and I personally see it as more of that then just a note-taking app. And in typical Notion style they aren’t sitting idle.

Now, if like me you have been searching for a new calendar or task & productivity system, maybe this is the one…just maybe! There is a ton of competition in this space, so let’s take a look.

Check out these great features:

  • Manage your events and all your commitments in one place

  • Time-blocking to prevent conflicts or double-bookings

  • Direct Integration with Notion databases

Why A Calendar

Calendars keep up connected to our events and tasks. There’s no doubt that having a visual queue to signify what’s up next is a perfect way to stay on top of our work, and fend off procrastination.

Many individuals use Notion to manage their projects, their tasks and it has even become their second brain. So, naturally having an extension of the calendar and time tracking within Notion is a great value-add.

Let Notion themselves tell you why:

How to Connect the Calendar

According to the Notion guide it only takes 5 steps to get started with Notion Calendar. In my testing it is that simple.

  1. Download the desktop app

  1. Enable notifications for your events

  1. Connect your existing Google calendar accounts

  1. Link Notion Calendar to your Notion Workspace

  1. Add your Notion Databases

Integrations & API

If you are curious about what other applications the Notion Calendar can integrate with here is the list:

  • Google Calendar - Notion has noticed the great majority of their users use Google Calendar

  • Zoom - Connector to your Zoom instance to do video conferencing directly from Notion Calendar

  • Google Meet - Google’s own videoconferencing solution

These are considered connected integrations, namely direct integrations accessed and configured directly from the application.

There is anothe type of integration called a custom integration by adding a conferencing provider via Settings → Conferencing → Conferencing Providers → Add

Notion Calendar can detect a number of services including  AroundBlueJeansDoxy.meMicrosoft TeamsSkypeWebex, and Whereby.

Notion Calendar also has an API that can be used to open Notion Calendar to a specific event from another tool. This works on macOS and Windows.

Final Thoughts

I’m excited about Notion Calendar. I was an avid tester of Cron and was curious to see what the next iteration of that app would be. When it was purchased, I was saddened, but eagerly anticipating what Notion would do with the calendar.

I’m thankful that they have released this amazing Version 1 of the Calendar. I look forward to fully connecting my tasks, and using it on the regular. While this isn’t an official review, I will say that my outlook is very positive. And I am eagerly anticipating any new features Notion adds.
